India’s Favourite Confusion: CV = Resume
(And Yes, This Still Needs to Be Said in 2026.)
I did a small experiment.
I asked 10 HRs one basic question:
“Is CV and Resume the same?”
“Yes. Same only.”
And suddenly:
Fresher confusion made sense
Resume rejections made sense
“Market is bad” posts made sense
Because when basics are broken at the gate, people inside will suffer.
First, ENGLISH CLASS
It is called a RESUME.
Not CV.
Not “Resoom”.
Not “Resuma”.
Not “CV only da, fast send”.
If you want a resume, open your mouth and say RESUME.
Calling everything CV is like:
Calling dosa an idli
Calling laptop “CPU”
Calling unpaid internship “great exposure”
Wrong name = wrong expectations.
Now let’s talk about the misunderstood superstar: CV
CV = Curriculum Vitae
Meaning: COURSE OF LIFE
Yes. LIFE.
Not “one-page job summary”.
CV is:
2–5 pages
Academic-heavy
Research, papers, conferences, publications
Used ONLY for:
PhD
Teaching
Research roles
Sending a CV for a fresher job is like:
Submitting a thesis
To order a burger
Burger uncle will just stare at you.
Now the actual hero: RESUME
Resume = SUMMARY
Keyword: SUMMARY, not autobiography.
Resume is:
1 page (freshers)
Max 2 pages (experienced)
Skills, projects, internships
Result-focused
Used for:
Jobs
Startups
MNCs
Campus & off-campus hiring
HR is not interested in:
Your school essay awards
Your family background
Your life struggles
HR wants: "Can this person do the job or not?”
Brutal HR Truth (no HR feelings harmed)
HRs don’t READ resumes.
They SCAN them.
Time given: 6–8 seconds
Resume = Menu
HR = Customer
If the menu is 5 pages long, customer won’t say:
“Nice effort.”
Customer says: "Next hotel.”
The most dangerous sentence in India “HR said same only.”
Everyone also:
Applies to 500 jobs
Gets 0 calls
Starts blaming astrology
Coincidence?
Correct pronunciation:
Resume → Rez-yu-may
CV → See-Vee
Reality:
“Resoom”
“Resuma”
“Share your CV"
Pronunciation won’t reject you.
Wrong document WILL.
FINAL RULE (save this before you cry later)
Applying for jobs → RESUME
Applying for PhD / Teaching / Research → CV
If someone still says: “Same only.”
Smile
Nod
Then IGNORE.
From today onwards
If any HR messages:
“Please share your CV”
Send your resume
If they insist
Send this post
Because:
CV tells your life story.
Resume sells your value.
Freshers are not failing.
Basics are. HARD.
If this post hurt a little, it was meant to. Save it.
