One deep skill. A few adjacent ones. Most job descriptions can't find a box for that.
You've probably heard the term "T-shaped" — deep expertise in one thing, working knowledge across several others. It's exactly how the most useful people actually operate. But it's also exactly what a rigid job posting can't capture.
A JD wants "5 years in X, required: Y, Z." It doesn't have a field for "also genuinely good at design, decent at writing, dangerous with a spreadsheet." So people either hide the breadth to fit the box, or lead with it and get filtered out as "not focused enough."
The irony is that breadth is usually the reason someone becomes exceptional at their deep skill in the first place.
So — what's your "T"? One deep thing, and what sits around it? Genuinely curious to hear answers on this one.
