Instructional design isn’t just about deciding what to teach — it’s about designing the experience through which learning happens.
My approach begins with a simple question:
“What should the learner be able to DO after this experience?”
From there, I work backwards — identifying the learning objective, breaking it into meaningful steps, designing activities that require learners to apply the concept, and building opportunities for feedback, reflection, and retrying.
This becomes especially powerful when combined with educational games. Instead of adding a game after teaching a concept, I design the learning objective into the mechanics of the experience.
The result is learning that is active, purposeful, and memorable — where students learn by making decisions, solving problems, experimenting, and discovering.
For me, good instructional design is invisible when it works well: the learner feels like they are simply doing something. #InstructionalDesign #EdTech
