5A business strategist works with a company on its long-term direction, helping define goals, growth plans, and how different parts of the business should align to get there. That's a more ongoing, holistic role than a consultant brought in to fix one specific problem, since a strategist is focused on the overall trajectory of the business rather than a single defined project. The relationship tends to be longer and more collaborative, shaping decisions over time rather than delivering a single fix.
Whether you need help defining where your business should be headed over the next few years, want an outside perspective on aligning your teams around shared goals, or want to learn strategic thinking yourself, Toskie TeamUp gives you a direct path to real collaborators instead of a cold job posting. Browse actual profiles and case studies, filter for the kind of collaboration you need, whether that's TeamUp for ongoing strategic input or Mentor for building the skill in-house, and start the conversation yourself. If you're the one with business strategy expertise rather than the one looking for it, you can set up a collaborator profile and start hearing directly from people who need it.
Toskie makes it easier to find and connect with skilled professionals for exactly what you need.

A business strategist collaborator on Toskie TeamUp helps a business define where it's actually headed and keeps decisions aligned with that direction over time.
Working with leadership to define what the business is actually trying to achieve over the next several years, not just the next quarter.
Making sure different departments are working toward the same goals, rather than pulling in directions that quietly work against each other.
Planning how a business should grow sustainably, covering everything from resourcing to which opportunities are actually worth pursuing.
Staying involved over time as an outside perspective on major decisions, rather than delivering a single plan and disappearing.
Toskie lets you look through a collaborator's actual background and past work before you reach out, and starting that first conversation costs nothing. Since this role is closer to an ongoing partnership than a one-off engagement, the clearest thing to confirm early is whether they're actually offering long-term strategic guidance, or a short-term fix better suited to a consultant.
Clarity on strategist versus consultant fit — confirm they're offering ongoing, big-picture guidance if that's genuinely what you need, rather than a narrow, project-based fix.
Comfort with ambiguity and long timelines — strategic work often lacks a clean, immediate answer, so ask how they've handled that kind of open-ended problem before.
Cross-functional experience — ask how they've aligned different departments around a shared direction in the past.
Relevant business stage experience — strategy for an early-stage company looks different from strategy for an established business trying to scale, so ask about direct experience with your stage.
A business strategist focuses on long-term direction and growth, typically working with a business on an ongoing basis. A business consultant is usually brought in to solve a specific, defined problem within a set timeline. The two roles can overlap, but their scope and time horizon differ.
Probably not. A single, defined issue, like a pricing problem or an operational bottleneck, is usually better suited to a consultant with relevant expertise. A strategist makes more sense when you need help thinking through the business's overall direction, not just one issue.
It varies, but strategic work tends to be longer-term and ongoing rather than a short, fixed project, since the value comes from staying involved as decisions unfold over time rather than a single upfront plan.
Toskie doesn't set or process rates. Pricing and terms are agreed directly between you and the collaborator you connect with, based on the scope you define.
