0A cloud security engineer protects the infrastructure, data, and applications a company runs in a cloud environment like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. That means setting up identity and access controls, configuring firewalls and network rules, encrypting data, and watching for misconfigurations that could leave a system exposed. The role sits at the point where cloud infrastructure and security overlap, so it calls for a working knowledge of both how cloud platforms are built and how attackers try to break into them.
Whether you have a cloud environment that needs a proper security review, want to learn how to think about cloud security yourself, or simply want to connect with people working in the space, Toskie TeamUp gives you a direct path to real collaborators instead of a cold job posting. Browse actual profiles and case studies, filter for the kind of collaboration you need, whether that's TeamUp for hands-on project work or Mentor for learning, and start the conversation yourself. If you're the one with cloud security expertise rather than the one looking for it, you can set up a collaborator profile and start hearing directly from people who need it.
Toskie makes it easier to find and connect with skilled professionals for exactly what you need.
Discover — Search for Cloud Security Engineer collaborators based on the skill or requirement you have in mind.
Filter — Narrow things down using details like skills, experience, and location.
Review — Look through a collaborator's profile to get a real sense of their background and what they've actually done.
Connect — Reach out to the people who seem like a genuine fit for your requirement.
Collaborate — Talk through the project, define what you actually need, and start working together once it feels like the right match.
Whether you're looking for a Cloud Security Engineer collaborator nearby or someone with a very specific kind of expertise, Toskie helps take the guesswork out of finding them and starting the conversation.
A cloud security engineer audits, hardens, and monitors cloud environments so a business isn't caught out by a preventable breach. That work generally covers a few distinct areas.
They set up least-privilege access policies, enforce multi-factor authentication, and regularly review who has access to what, since misused credentials are one of the most common ways cloud breaches happen.
They configure firewalls, security groups, and virtual private networks so only the right traffic can reach a system, and segment environments so a breach in one area doesn't spread to everything else.
They check cloud setups against frameworks like SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO 27001, and use tools that scan for misconfigured storage buckets or overly open permissions before they become a real problem.
They set up logging and alerting across cloud accounts, and build a plan for what happens the moment something looks wrong, so a security event gets caught and contained quickly.
They handle encryption for data at rest and in transit, and manage the keys and secrets that protect sensitive information from being read by anyone who shouldn't see it.
On Toskie, you can look through a collaborator's profile, past work, and background before you ever start a conversation, and reaching out to talk through your project costs nothing up front. Cloud security work is easy to describe in vague terms, so what actually separates a strong collaborator is whether they can walk you through specific decisions rather than general best practices.
Ask which cloud platforms they've secured directly, since the tools and default settings for locking down AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud are different enough that experience on one doesn't automatically transfer to another.
Check whether they hold relevant certifications like CCSP or a cloud provider's own security credential, which shows they've been tested on real security concepts rather than just general IT knowledge.
Ask them to describe how they'd respond to a specific scenario, like an exposed storage bucket or a leaked access key, since their answer reveals how they actually think under pressure rather than what they've memorized.
Talk through how they balance security with usability, since a collaborator who only knows how to lock everything down can slow a team to a crawl just as easily as one who leaves things too open.
A general cybersecurity engineer often works across networks, endpoints, and on-premises systems, while a cloud security engineer focuses specifically on securing environments hosted on platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. The tools, shared responsibility models, and common risks in cloud security are different enough that many companies look for someone with direct cloud platform experience rather than a general security background alone.
