0A web developer builds and maintains websites and web applications, writing the code that makes a site actually function rather than just look a certain way. "Web developer" is a broad umbrella term that can mean someone who works on the frontend, the backend, or both, so the term alone doesn't always tell you exactly what a person specializes in. It's worth clarifying which side of the work a specific web developer actually focuses on before assuming they cover everything.
Whether you have a website or web application that needs to be built or fixed, an existing site with bugs or performance issues, or want to learn web development yourself, Toskie TeamUp gives you a direct path to real collaborators instead of a cold job posting. Browse actual profiles and case studies, filter for the kind of collaboration you need, whether that's TeamUp for a specific build or Mentor for learning to code, and start the conversation yourself. If you're the one with web development expertise rather than the one looking for it, you can set up a collaborator profile and start hearing directly from people who need it.
Toskie makes it easier to find and connect with skilled professionals for exactly what you need.

Whether you're looking for a Web Developer nearby or someone with a very specific kind of expertise, Toskie helps take the guesswork out of finding them and starting the conversation.
A web developer collaborator on Toskie TeamUp writes the code that makes a website or web app actually function, whether that's on the frontend, backend, or both.
Building a website or web application from the ground up based on what it actually needs to do, not just how it should look.
Troubleshooting and fixing issues on an existing site, from broken functionality to performance problems that slow things down.
Connecting a site to external tools and services, like payment processors or booking systems, so the site does more than display static content.
Keeping a site running smoothly over time, handling updates and technical issues as they come up rather than only touching the project once at launch.
Toskie lets you look through a collaborator's actual built sites and background before you reach out, and starting that first conversation costs nothing. Since "web developer" covers a lot of ground, the first useful question is simply which part of the stack they actually specialize in, so you're not assuming broader coverage than what they really offer.
Clarify their actual specialization — ask directly whether they focus on frontend, backend, or both, since the umbrella term alone doesn't tell you.
Portfolio relevance — look for past projects with a scope and complexity similar to yours.
Maintenance and support approach — ask how they handle a site after launch, since most sites need ongoing attention, not just an initial build.
Clarity of proposed approach — whether they can explain their technical plan in plain terms during a direct conversation.
It can mean any of them, since the term is a broad umbrella. Some web developers specialize in just the frontend or backend, while others work across both. It's worth asking directly which side a specific collaborator focuses on rather than assuming.
A web developer handles the technical build, the code that makes a site function. A web designer focuses on the visual layout and user experience. Many projects need both, sometimes from one person and sometimes from two specialists working together.
For a very simple site, a website builder can work fine. A web developer becomes worth it once you need custom functionality, integrations, or performance that a drag-and-drop builder can't reliably deliver.
Toskie doesn't set or process rates. Pricing and terms are agreed directly between you and the collaborator you connect with, based on the scope you define.
No. Toskie facilitates the connection; any commercial or payment terms are arranged directly between you and the collaborator.
